About – The Challenge and Us

Ben 2 Blanc Challenge is about raising awareness and money for Hannah Hunt and the HEAT Fund so that she can have the best equipment and therapies available.
It was originally just about giving ourselves a huge challenge which will require us to push our mental and physical abilities to the max whilst raising awareness for a generic charity of choice and realisically our donations would have been a drop in the ocean. When Hannah had her accident and lost the use of her legs we realised we could potentially help her a bit. Now every penny we get can make a real difference to a smiley and beautiful friend of ours. So please help by sponsoring us.

We are travelling from the summit of Ben Nevis (highest mountain in the British Isles) to the summit of Mont Blanc (highest mountain in Western Europe). We will run down from the summit of ‘The Ben’ (1344m), ride our bikes from there to Dover, hop on a ferry to Calais, ride down to Chamonix and then walk up Mont Blanc (4809m). The challenge will begin on the first summit and end on the second. We will get from ‘Ben 2 Blanc’ in 15 days or under. We intend to use this challenge as an excuse to get outrageously fit and do some fun training events to test our progress. This blog will be the place where we will write about how we are getting on and we’ll update it with some of the training and challenges we are undertaking between now and August.

Mont Blanc

We are Jack and Andy. Both of us are keen climbers and outdoor addicts. For some reason we like to suffer and therefore we intend to put our all into the challenge from the training required right through to the event it’s self.

Hopefully we will reach the summit of Mont Blanc with just enough energy to make it back down safely having given it everything we have for 15 days. Our tactic for success will be to get really fit, embrace the pain and laugh at ourselves and each other with every opportunity.

The van in Chamonix

Jack is a rock climber through and through, he lives in a van and is often found kipping under overhung bits of rock. He has On-sighted E4 rock climbs, headpointed E7 and generally climbs hard in good style whether at Font, Malham, on the grit, or anywhere where climbing is possible. Jack has even been to the roof of the Alps before, where he vowed never to return that is until we made the suggestion of this challenge. Jack’s van will be our noble support vehicle providing the highest standard of hospitality and comfort as we work our way down Britain and across France. Keep your eyes peeled for the Big Green Van.

Andy has climbed all over the country, loves mountains and has a lust for adventure. He also has a knack for talking himself into ridiculous challenges. Occasionally cycling to work and back gave Andy the idea that this challenge would be a good idea. He recently went for a 24hr epic after a full day at work, cycling 55miles into a strong headwind across the dales to then walk the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in a wet gale and then ride the 55 miles back home. Andy has climbed Mont Blanc before as well as a handful of other mountain routes in the Mont Blanc area (that’s where some of the pretty pictures came from) and after a wet and unsuccessful trip with Jack last year he hopes to make this one count.
